Great Paxton Church

Just another WordPress.com weblog

Great Paxton Church – hello world!

Greetings to everyone who fings their way onto this blog

This is Annette Reed, the Vicar of Little Paxton, Great Paxton and Diddington. I already have a growing blog at http://www.paxtonvic.wordpress.com ( all about my little observations on life)  Little Paxton Church has a substantial web-site as well of its own – so I thought it time Holy Trinity Church has its own site – so here it is in the form of a blog.

I will try and put news, events and general information  on the site  and develop it slowly – hopefully it will be of interest to some folk out there.

Holy Trinity Church is a remarkable Saxon building and architecturally is hugely significant.

It is traditionally known as a Minster Church – it would have been the main church for the area centuries ago with  a community of priests living  in buildings near to the church. They would have taken services to people in outlying areas until these settlements built their own parish churches.

We are embarking upon an ambitious project to introduce new toilet facilities into the church and a new meeting area in July 2009. The project is costing c £85,000 and although we are short of £20,000 at the present time, we are having a big fund raising push in June.

June 5th  2009 sees the” Great Sleep Over”  in church – preceeded by a group of  folk in pyjamas going round the village knocking on doors and begging. We shall then attempt to sleep over night in church – bats and all.

June 6th – 7th sees the Living Water Festvial with the church open from 11pm – 5pm with glorious displays about all things to do with water. It will also be open the following week from 2pm- 5pm.

Should be fun……. all to bring new life to this beautiful  building and to help the committed PCC offer new facilities to the community.
